The Scream Factory is Coming to Florida
It’s official and the dirt is already moving! Disney’s Hollywood Studios is officially preparing for one of its most ambitious expansions yet: a fully immersive land themed after Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. For years, fans have dreamed of stepping into the industrial streets of Monstropolis, and after the major announcements at D23, those dreams are finally taking shape behind construction walls. This isn’t just a small addition; it’s a total reimagining of a classic corner of the park that will bring the first-ever suspended coaster to a Disney park.
The First-Ever Door Coaster
The centerpiece of the new land is the highly anticipated Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster. If you’ve ever watched the 2001 film and wished you could hitch a ride on those whizzing closet doors in the massive vault, you’re finally getting your chance. Unlike traditional roller coasters where you sit on top of the track, this will be a suspended coaster, meaning you’ll hang beneath the rail to simulate the sensation of being hooked to a door.
Early reports and Imagineering models suggest the ride will feature a vertical lift—just like the mechanical claws in the movie—before launching guests into a high-speed chase through the door factory. We’ve already seen the first steel track supports arriving on-site as of April 2026, which means the skeleton of this massive show building will soon be visible from the parking lot.
Where is Monstropolis Located?
To make room for the monsters, Disney is transforming the former Muppets Courtyard area. While it’s bittersweet to see the Muppet*Vision 3D theater close its doors, the space is being utilized for a massive footprint that extends into what was previously a Cast Member parking lot. The land will pick up the story where the original movie left off, inviting humans into the city now that it runs on
