A New Legend Begins on Verbolten
The 2026 Summer of Wonder at Busch Gardens Williamsburg is officially here, and the highlight for thrill-seekers is the major revamp of a fan-favorite attraction. Opening May 30, Verbolten: Forbidden Turn introduces an entirely new storyline to the indoor-outdoor launch coaster. Guests will once again depart from the German section of the park for a tour along the autobahn, but this journey takes a dark turn into the Black Forest.
The update features new animatronics and enhanced special effects that amp up the tension before the coaster’s signature 88-foot plunge toward the Rhine River. With a height requirement of 48 inches, it remains an accessible thrill for families, though the new “Forbidden Turn” narrative adds a distinctly menacing atmosphere to the experience.
Live Entertainment: From British Hits to High-Flying Acrobatics
Busch Gardens is leaning heavily into high-quality live productions this summer. In the England section, the Globe Theatre hosts Across The Pond: Legends of the U.K., a musical journey featuring the hits of iconic British artists like The Beatles, Queen, and Adele. Performances are scheduled Wednesday through Sunday at 2:00 p.m., 3:45 p.m., and 6:15 p.m.
For those looking for high-energy spectacle, Kinetix: The Next Generation takes over the Royal Palace Theater in France. This show combines world-class acrobats, aerialists, and powerhouse vocalists. Performances run Thursday through Sunday at 8:30 p.m., serving as the perfect lead-in to the park’s nighttime finale.
The First-Ever Drone Show Over the Rhine
For the first time in the park’s history, Busch Gardens Williamsburg is introducing a synchronized drone show. As darkness falls after the Kinetix performance, more than 400 drones will take to the skies. These drones create massive, glowing formations set to themed music, celebrating the park’s unique architecture and natural beauty. This addition follows the successful debut of similar shows at other premier theme parks and provides a modern alternative to traditional pyrotechnics.
Free Concerts and Planning Logistics
The park’s popular free Concert Series returns for 2026 with a diverse lineup. If you’re planning a visit for these shows, keep in mind that you’ll need a wristband for entry. These are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Event Welcome Center near the England Sweet Shoppe. The scheduled acts include:
- Hoobastank: May 30
- Skillet: June 13
- Flo Rida: September 5
All concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. Additionally, Military Appreciation Week runs from June 29 through July 5, featuring Americana-inspired food and a specialty fireworks show on July 4 to celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary.
Seasonal Festivals to Watch For
The Summer of Wonder main event runs from June 26 through July 30, but the park has plenty of other activity surrounding these dates. The Food & Wine Festival is currently running Thursday through Sunday until June 21. Following the summer event, Bier Fest Brews & BBQ will take over from July 31 through September 7, operating Friday through Sunday.
