Big Changes at EPCOT: Soarin’ Around the World Closing for New American Adventure

A New Flight Path for EPCOT

EPCOT is preparing for a significant change at one of its most popular attractions. After over two decades of taking guests on flights across the globe, the current iteration of Soarin’ is coming to a close to make way for a patriotic update. Starting May 14, 2026, Soarin’ Around the World will officially close for a short refurbishment as the park transitions to an all-new experience called Soarin’ Across America.

This update is timed specifically for the 250th anniversary of the United States. Disney has confirmed that the new film will focus on the natural beauty and legendary cityscapes found within the U.S., from the Grand Canyon to other iconic landmarks. While the physical ride system and the signature hang glider vehicles aren’t changing, the sights, the sounds, and even the scents are being completely reimagined for this limited-time run.

What to Expect from Soarin’ Across America

The core sensation of gliding that fans love will remain the same. However, Disney has shared that more than a dozen locations across the country were filmed for this project. You can look forward to an original musical score and a fresh set of scents designed to match the American landscapes. For those who enjoy the current global tour, you’ve only got about two weeks left to catch the Great Wall of China or the Eiffel Tower before the film is swapped out on May 14.

The transition period is relatively quick. The attraction is scheduled to reopen to the public on May 26, 2026. Before that, Disney Cast Members will have the opportunity to preview the new flight beginning May 6. This allows the operations teams to get used to the new film and effects before the general crowds arrive for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

More Than Just a Film Change

Recent activity in the Land Pavilion suggests Disney is putting extra care into this update. Guests have already noticed new carpet installation in the Soarin’ queue. The new design is described as more detailed and plush than the previous version. Additionally, Walt Disney Imagineering recently filed permits for set installation at the attraction, which indicates that we might see physical enhancements inside the theater or the queue alongside the digital updates.

This isn’t just an EPCOT exclusive, either. Disney California Adventure is also getting in on the celebration. While the Florida version debuts in May, the California version is set to open on July 2, 2026. This gives guests on both coasts a chance to experience the American journey during the peak of the summer season.

Planning Your Visit

If you’re planning a trip to EPCOT in mid-May, you’ll want to keep these dates in mind for your itinerary:

Disney has been clear that this is a limited-time journey. While they haven’t announced exactly when Soarin’ Around the World will return, the American version is tied directly to the 250th-anniversary festivities. If you’re a fan of the classic global version, don’t worry—it’s expected to return once the celebration concludes.
