A Fresh Look for a Classic: The Evolution of EPCOT’s Canada Pavilion

Maintaining the Magic in World Showcase

World Showcase is often celebrated for its immersive architecture and dedication to cultural detail. Among the most striking structures in this area of EPCOT is the Hotel du Canada. While it looks like a grand hotel you could check into for the night, it actually serves as a majestic backdrop for the pavilion and houses the popular Le Cellier Steakhouse. In late 2023, Disney completed a significant exterior refurbishment on this landmark to ensure it continues to represent the beauty of the Great White North.

If you’re visiting the park today in 2026, you’ll notice a much brighter and more vibrant aesthetic than what was present a few years ago. This refurbishment wasn’t just a simple maintenance task; it was a total color palette shift designed to better reflect the pavilion’s real-world inspiration.

The 2023 Hotel du Canada Transformation

The Hotel du Canada is modeled after the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa. Before the 2023 update, the building featured a darker, more weathered beige and brown color scheme. Over time, the Florida sun and humidity had taken a toll on the facade, leading to fading and some visible wear. Disney’s Imagineering team decided to refresh the building with a lighter, off-white tan that aligns more closely with the current look of the actual Chateau Laurier.

The roof also saw a major change. Previously, the roof had a dark brown finish that was meant to simulate aged copper. During the refurbishment, crews applied a new green patina-style paint. This look mimics the natural oxidation process of copper roofs, giving the building an established, historic feel that pops against the Florida sky. The result is a structure that feels both refreshed and more authentic to the Canadian railway hotels of the early 20th century.

What to See at the Canada Pavilion Today

Now that the scaffolding and construction walls are a memory, guests can fully enjoy the multi-level beauty of this pavilion. When you’re planning your day at EPCOT, make sure to spend some time exploring beyond the main walkway. Here are a few things you shouldn’t miss:

Planning Your Visit

The Canada Pavilion is one of the two entry points to World Showcase, making it a high-traffic area in the mornings. While there are no attractions here currently utilizing Lightning Lane Multi Pass, the pavilion can still get busy during festivals. The lighter color scheme on the buildings has helped the area feel more open and bright, even on crowded days. Whether you’re there for the poutine or the views, the 2023 refresh has ensured that this corner of the park remains a highlight of the EPCOT experience.
