The Shoreline is Changing at Walt Disney World
If you’ve taken a boat ride from the Magic Kingdom to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground lately, you’ve probably noticed quite a bit of activity along the shoreline. We’ve been watching the dirt move and the structures rise for a while now, but we finally have a much clearer picture of when we can actually step inside. Disney has officially confirmed that Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge will open its doors in Summer 2027.
While we already knew the resort was slated for a 2027 debut, narrowing it down to the summer season is a big deal for those of us who like to plan our Disney Vacation Club (DVC) points or family vacations years in advance. We don’t have a specific day or month for the grand opening yet, but the progress on-site is undeniable. Construction crews are currently working on A-frame structures that are starting to give the resort its signature silhouette against the Florida sky.
From River Country to Lakeshore Lodge
For those who have been visiting the Most Magical Place on Earth for decades, this location carries a lot of history. Disney’s Lakeshore Lodge is being built on the former site of Disney’s River Country, the company’s first water park. It’s tucked right between the rustic charm of Fort Wilderness and the grand architecture of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.
The project has had an interesting journey. You might remember that Disney originally announced a hotel called ‘Reflections: A Lakeside Lodge’ for this exact spot. After a period of silence and a name change, we now have Lakeshore Lodge. Based on those original plans for Reflections, we expect the resort to house around 900 rooms, offering a mix of Disney Vacation Club accommodations and likely some standard hotel rooms too.
Inspired by the Majesty of Nature
One of the most exciting things about this new resort is the theme. Disney says the lodge is inspired by the ‘majesty of nature and its enduring influence on Disney artists.’ This isn’t just a generic forest theme: it’s a deep dive into how animators have interpreted the great outdoors over the years.
New concept art and previous teasers have shown us that characters like Bambi, Flower, and Thumper will have a presence in the design. We’ve also spotted signs featuring quotes like ‘The Wonders of Nature are Endless’ alongside silhouettes that strongly resemble Pocahontas. It feels like a perfect fit for the Bay Lake area, bridging the gap between the rugged camping vibes nearby and the more refined lodge aesthetic of its neighbors.
Planning for a 2027 Visit
Since this is a Disney Vacation Club resort, members are likely already thinking about how to spend their points. While we wait for more specifics on room types and booking dates, here are a few things you can do to stay ahead of the news:
- Watch the progress from the water: The best view of the Lakeshore Lodge construction is from the internal Disney World water taxis that run between the Magic Kingdom, Wilderness Lodge, and Fort Wilderness.
- Monitor DVC updates: If you’re a member, keep an eye on official DVC portals toward the end of 2026, as that’s when we typically see point charts and booking windows revealed for new properties.
- Explore the area now: Take a trip over to Geyser Point Bar & Grill at the nearby Wilderness Lodge to get a feel for the atmosphere of this corner of the property. It’s one of the most peaceful spots in all of Walt Disney World.
We’ll be keeping a very close eye on those construction walls as Summer 2027 gets closer. It’s always a massive event when a new resort joins the lineup, especially one with such a unique ties to Disney’s animation history.
