Disney’s Animal Kingdom Welcomes Ivy: The Newest Baby Giraffe Named by Cast Members

A Tree-mendous Family Name

The baby Masai giraffe born in early April 2026 has officially been named! After weeks of bonding backstage with her mom, Willow, the adorable calf received her new name thanks to a vote by the Disney’s Animal Kingdom animal care team and Cast Members.

The keepers had the fun task of voting on a list of 12 potential names. Ultimately, they chose Ivy. It is a fitting name that perfectly honors her lineage. Ivy is the daughter of Willow, continuing a lovely, botanical-themed naming tradition within the park’s Masai giraffe herd.

Why Ivy’s Arrival is a Huge Deal

While she arrived weighing 120 pounds and standing nearly six feet tall, Ivy is still just a little one compared to her fully grown counterparts. Beyond being incredibly cute, her birth represents a major victory for conservation. Masai giraffes are classified as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, with only about 30,000 remaining in the wild. Habitat loss and poaching continue to threaten their populations.

Disney works closely with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan. This collaborative effort helps maintain a healthy, genetically diverse population of threatened and endangered species in accredited zoos and parks across the country. Ivy joins her half-brother, Tucker, who was born in 2025, as a vital part of this conservation success story.

When and Where to See Ivy

Right now, Ivy is still spending her time backstage. This private time allows her to bond with Willow and grow stronger under the watchful eyes of Disney’s expert keepers. However, you won’t have to wait much longer to see her in person. Disney has shared that Ivy is expected to join the rest of the herd out on the savanna on Kilimanjaro Safaris this summer.

If you are planning a trip to Disney’s Animal Kingdom in the coming months, keep your eyes peeled during your safari. Spotting a young calf on the savanna is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have at the park.

More New Additions at Walt Disney World

Ivy is not the only new face in the crowd. Spring has brought a true baby boom to the parks and resorts. Here are a few other adorable newborns you might spot on your next visit:

Planning a safari trip to see these new arrivals is a great way to add extra magic to your Walt Disney World vacation. Don’t forget to grab a morning safari slot, as this is often when the animals are most active and visible!
