A New Way to Relax Before Your Flight
Orlando International Airport (MCO) is often the first and last stop on a magical Disney vacation. While the airport is known for its iconic carpet and the “fake monorail,” it can also be a high-stress environment for families navigating long layovers or flight delays. Fortunately, a new addition has just arrived in Terminal C that is designed specifically to take the edge off for traveling parents and their little ones.
The airport recently celebrated the grand opening of the Flybrary. This isn’t just a standard seating area; it’s a dedicated children’s reading nook and library located right inside the terminal. If you’ve ever found yourself pacing the gate area trying to keep a toddler entertained, this news is going to be a game-changer for your next trip.
What is the Flybrary?
The Flybrary is a playfully designed space that encourages young travelers to settle down with a good book. The design is inspired by the natural beauty of Central Florida. Instead of standard metal airport chairs, you’ll find tree-shaped bookshelves and stools shaped like tree stumps. The floor is covered in a custom carpet featuring water and plant patterns that mimic the local landscape.
The clear centerpiece of the room is a restored vintage Lake Eola swan boat. This boat is named after Billy the Swan, a legendary and notoriously feisty figure in Orlando’s history. It serves as a cozy spot where children and parents can sit together to read. It’s a wonderful tribute to downtown Orlando’s iconic swan community and provides a great photo opportunity for families before they head home.
Where to Find It
If you want to check out this new space, you’ll need to head over to Terminal C. The Flybrary is located post-security on Level 2, specifically near Gate 240. This terminal currently handles many international flights as well as domestic carriers like JetBlue.
For those who aren’t flying out of Terminal C but still want to see the new space, there is a way. You can apply for an Experience MCO Visitor Pass. This program allows non-traveling guests to clear security and enjoy the shops, restaurants, and amenities of the new terminal without a boarding pass. It’s a great option if you’re meeting family at the airport and have some time to kill.
More Family Zones on the Way
The Flybrary is just the beginning of a larger effort to make MCO more family-friendly. According to airport officials, this is the first of three Family Zones slated to open throughout the airport this year. While details on the other two locations haven’t been fully revealed, the goal is to elevate the passenger experience by providing spaces that offer comfort and education.
Lance Lyttle, the CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, noted that the Flybrary is part of a commitment to treat the airport as a community pillar. By providing a quiet, imaginative space for young readers, the airport is helping to ensure the magic of an Orlando vacation starts—or ends—on a high note.
