Summer 2026: The Season of Progress (and Jackhammers)
As we head into the heart of the Cool Kids’ Summer promotion, Walt Disney World is preparing for a massive influx of families. With perks like free water park tickets on check-in day and the return of popular characters, the resorts are expected to be at near-capacity. However, if you’re planning a stay, you need to be aware that 13 different Disney World hotels are currently navigating various stages of refurbishment and construction.
The Polynesian Village Resort: Transportation and Dining Impacts
Arguably the most significant impact is at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Throughout the summer, the front entrance roadway and bus area are being reconfigured. This project is part of a larger expansion of Floridian Way and may affect your views and travel times.
- Boat Transportation: The resort’s boat dock will undergo maintenance from May 11 through late June. Crucially, boat service to Magic Kingdom will be completely suspended from May 11 through June 5.
- Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace: This popular outdoor spot is closed through late June.
- Wailulu Bar & Grill: Roof work is underway at the new Island Tower through late June. During the day, the restaurant is walk-up only with no seating available until 5:00 PM.
Major Restaurant Closures at Yacht Club and Grand Floridian
Foodies should take note of several high-profile dining closures. At Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, the Yachtsman Steakhouse is closing on May 11 for a refresh through August. On the bright side, the nearby Crew’s Cup Lounge is expected to reopen in early May just as the steakhouse closes.
Over at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, the Grand Floridian Cafe will be closed from mid-July through October. If you have your heart set on their famous brunch, don’t worry—the service is moving temporarily to Citricos from 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM daily.
Rotating Refurbishments at Saratoga Springs
Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort is utilizing a phased approach for the Turf Club area through mid-September:
- Early April – Early August: The Turf Club Lounge is closed (a pop-up bar is available).
- Early to Mid-August: The patio area will be closed.
- Mid-August – Mid-September: The Turf Club Bar & Grill closes while the Lounge reopens.
General Maintenance Across the Property
While the following resorts won’t see major amenity closures, guests should expect to see scaffolding or hear daytime construction noise:
- Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge: Jambo House room refurbs continue through early 2027.
- Disney’s BoardWalk Inn: Exterior work is scheduled through late 2026.
- Disney’s Contemporary Resort: Maintenance is ongoing at both the Main Tower and Bay Lake Tower.
- Port Orleans French Quarter & Riverside: Room refurbishments are staggered through 2027.
- Art of Animation, Pop Century, Riviera, and Caribbean Beach: These resorts are undergoing general exterior painting and maintenance.
If you’re staying at any of these locations, we recommend requesting a room away from the active work zones. While the Cool Kids’ Summer magic is in full swing, a little bit of planning will ensure your morning coffee isn’t interrupted by the sound of a saw!
