Disney’s Week of Wishes: Celebrating 45 Years of Magic and Hope

A Milestone of Magic and Giving

This week marks a significant milestone in the history of the Walt Disney Company. Disney has officially kicked off their Week of Wishes, a massive, weeklong campaign that celebrates 45 years of partnership with Make-A-Wish. It’s a relationship that has grown into something truly monumental, with Disney being recognized as the largest WishMaker for the organization. To put the scale into perspective, Disney helps grant wishes every single hour of every day, totaling more than 175,000 wishes for children with critical illnesses globally since the partnership began.

The Reimagined Wish Lounge at Magic Kingdom

One of the most touching updates coming out of this week involves a special corner of the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. Disney recently renovated and rededicated the Wish Lounge, a private retreat designed specifically for Wish families to find some quiet and relaxation during their park days. Originally opened in the late 2000s, this space has been given a fresh, inspiring update with a very personal touch.

The renovation wasn’t just a corporate project; it involved Disney Cast Members who have their own history with the organization. Abigail Hoyle, a former Wish kid who now works as a Disney Cast Member in entertainment, helped lead the efforts alongside other Cast Member alumni. These individuals were invited to sign a wall within the lounge, leaving behind words of encouragement and hope for the families who will use the space in the future. The rededication was a high-profile event, featuring Disney Experiences Chairman Thomas Mazloum and Walt Disney World President Jeff Vahle, who surprised a young wish kid named Paxton with a first look at the new space and a visit from Mickey and Minnie.

Spotlighting 200 Wishes and Legacy Awards

The celebration doesn’t stop at the lounge. Throughout the Week of Wishes, Disney is putting the spotlight on 200 different wishes to showcase the diversity and impact of these experiences. Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro noted that the company takes the responsibility of storytelling and spreading joy very seriously, especially for families going through their most difficult moments.

In recognition of long-term commitment, former Disney CEO Bob Iger is being honored with the first-ever WishMaker Lifetime Achievement Award. During his time at the helm, Iger oversaw the granting of more than 110,000 wishes. To further commemorate the week, a new brand spot titled Drawn to You has been released. Directed by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Goh Iromoto, the film explores the real-life stories of Wish kids and the process of how children express their heartfelt desires through art and play.

How You Can Get Involved

If you’re looking for a way to support this mission while potentially scoring a dream vacation, Disney has teamed up with Charitybuzz for a fundraiser sweepstakes. By making a donation to Make-A-Wish, you can enter for a chance to win a VIP weekend at the Disneyland Resort in California. This prize package even includes a walk down the red carpet at the global premiere of Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday. Additionally, there is an extra incentive for early donors: the first 350 people to donate $350 or more will receive a one-year subscription to the Disney Bundle, which includes Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+.

Planning Your Trip Around Big Events

The 45-year bond between Disney and Make-A-Wish is a testament to the power of imagination and the impact of a simple wish. Whether it’s through a newly renovated lounge or a global sweepstakes, this week serves as a reminder of the heart behind the magic.
